Temple’s football schedule released – Philly.com (blog)

Temple will open its football season with four consecutive non-conference games before finishing up with its eight American Athletic Conference matchups.

The AAC released schedules on Wednesday. As usual, the starting times are unknown due to television. Temple will play seven at home and five on the road.

The season begins Sept. 3 when Army visits the Owls at Lincoln Financial Field.

The highlight of the non-league schedule is a Sept. 17 meeting at Penn State.

Temple’s four non-league opponents, Army, Stony Brook, Penn State and Charlotte, had a combined 16-31 record, with only Penn State (7-6) having a winning record last year.

One of the key games at the Linc is Friday, Oct. 21 when the Owls host South Florida. Last season South Florida was the only AAC team to defeat Temple in the regular season. The Bulls will likely be the Eastern Division preseason favorite.

The Owls (10-4 overall, 7-1 AAC) won the East Division and played in the inaugural AAC title game, losing to Houston, 24-13.

Nine of the Owls games will be played on Saturday. Besides the South Florida matchup, the others not on Saturday are Thursday Oct. 6 at Memphis and Friday, Nov. 4 at Connecticut.

This year’s AAC championship game is scheduled for Saturday. Dec. 3.
